BASEMENT CLASSROOM PROJECT

For the past five years, the volunteers at the non-profit organization Urban Partners Los Angeles have offered free educational assistance and math tutoring programs for underprivileged youth in the Koreatown/Westlake area. The children range between the ages of 6 and 11, and come from low-income working-class families. The Without Limits program depends on the support of community donations and the commitment of volunteer tutors who continuously work towards helping these young students overcome barriers through education, inspiration and transformation.

The classroom sits on the basement floor of the First Unitarian Church, without ample lighting, paint on the wall, carpeting on the floor, and a limited number of books and toys.

With the Basement Classroom Makeover Project, we aim to transform and create a space conducive for children to learn, a place for a child to grow, a place to harness creativity and imagination, a space that will help these young students recognize their unlimited potential.

Transforming our society into the world we want to see requires us to meaningfully interact with and actively become involved in its creation.
This is the revolution on a micro-level, working directly in our neighborhood to address real-life problems to create a difference in the real world. We often talk about change... now is the time to be that change.

This is our service to the people.

We need all hands on deck, creators with heart, skills, and resources.

The brainstorming and strategy meeting is on September 25, 2016. Check our Meetup page for RSVP and info.

UPDATE: The Makeover Weekend is Friday thru Sunday, October 21, 22 and 23, 2016. If you would like to volunteer, please add your RSVP on Meetup!

We are raising funds for the project via Crowdrise, all donations go directly to benefit UPLA's Without Limits classroom. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation, please visit our Crowdrise page.
